What Is So Bad About Jesus? By Dr. Hector Avalos

Jesus has been the primary model of ethics for Christians. Even some atheists who do not believe in Jesus’ divine nature may still admit that his teachings emphasize love, nonviolence, and inclusion. Dr. Hector Avalos will explain why many of the teachings and actions of Jesus, as he is portrayed in the New Testament, would be antithetical to those enshrined in some of the most widely accepted codes of modern ethics. Such teachings involve family values, violence, and the treatment of animals. The lecture is based on Dr. Avalos’ book, The Bad Jesus: The Ethics of the New Testament Ethics (2015). Sponsored by the Iowa State University Atheist and Agnostic Society.
