IAF Sunday Meetup-Brown Baggin’ It!

This is our regular weekly Meetup. Please come and join us for an interesting discussion on a variety of topics. The weather looks good for Sunday and the Gray’s Lake Terrace provides some shelter under the pergola. Forecast is 70-72° and cloudy or partly cloudy with 20% rain chances south. Bring your own lunch (sorry, no alcohol permitted at Gray’s Lake!) and enjoy the beautiful view! Consider bringing a more comfortable lawn chair.

We will need to discuss future locations for our Sunday Meetup as our options have suddenly become more limited.

Café Scientifique: Cretaceous Coastlines

Presenter: Cory Redman, Human Anatomy Instructor, Drake University

The Mississippi may be mighty, but 65-100 million years ago, a shallow sea split North America in half, connecting the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.

Using 75-million-year-old fossils, Dr. Cory Redman has studied how changes in sea level affected the diversity and distribution of non-marine animals that lived along the seaway. Join us to explore these findings and learn how the fossil record can be used to help study the effects of modern sea-levels rising.

Planned Parenthood Book Sale Setup

Volunteer Opportunity! Come support Planned Parenthood of the Heartland as they prepare for their annual fall book sale at the Fairgrounds 4-H building. The bulk of the work is unpacking boxes of books and arranging them on tables so please wear clothes and shoes that you can work in comfortably as you’ll be on your feet quite a bit. To find the 4-H Building, turn right from the main fairgrounds entrance off of E. 30th St and drive to the farthest building in that corner of the grounds. For security reason, volunteers are instructed to enter the building via the door on the SW corner, just to the right and around the way from the main entrance.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it out at 4:00 – just come when you can, there will be plenty to do. Planned Parenthood asks that all volunteers stay for a minimum of two hours but they understand that not everyone can meet this goal. Please do RSVP if you plan to attend so we can send a headcount to the Planned Parenthood Book Sale organizers. Thank you for volunteering!
