Godless Game Night

Dust off your Monopoly, Trivial Pursuit, Scrabble, Clue, Chutes and Ladders, playing cards, chess sets, etc. – we are having an old-school game night!

This meetup will be held in the party room of an apartment complex near Jordan Creek mall. An IAF member has generously offered to facilitate the use of the room at the complex. Please treat the facilities respectfully as an extension of his home.

IAF will provide plates, cups, utensils, napkins and soda/pop. Feel free to bring any additional food and beverages you might want.

Please consider donating $5 per person to cover the cost of the room. We look forward to seeing you there!

[EDIT]: Instead of having members bringing a potluck meal, IAF will provide pizza for those attending instead.

IAF Book Discussion Group, Session 2016.06 [RESCHEDULED]

*NOTE – Owing to a quirk of timing, this event has been rescheduled from the usual day and time. Apologies for any inconvenience this may cause.

The IAF Book Discussion Group is an ongoing effort to provide interesting intellectual conversations for members of IAF and other interested parties on texts and topics relevant to the Secular perspective.

For this session the group will take a break from more serious fare and discuss the full text of the fictional work “LAMB: THE GOSPEL ACCORDING TO BIFF, CHRIST’S CHILDHOOD PAL” by Christopher Moore.

Just so it’s clear, the reading assignment for this session will cover the entire book. Be prepared, if possible, to present things from the reading assignment that stood out for you so that we can gain a good cross-section of individual perspectives where the reading is concerned.

The conference room that has been reserved at Kirkendall Public Library has a maximum capacity of 20 so RSVP early to get a seat. Social time will be available from 6:30 to 7 PM if you want to come and just chat before the discussion begins. We’ll see you there. 🙂

You can read a brief about the book on Christopher’s Website by following this LINK.

If you prefer, though, here is a brief synopsis of the title from the same site –

The birth of Jesus has been well chronicled, as have his glorious teachings, acts, and divine sacrifice after his thirtieth birthday. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years — except Biff, the Messiahs best bud, who has been resurrected to tell the story in the divinely hilarious yet heartfelt work “reminiscent of Vonnegut and Douglas Adams” (Philadelphia Inquirer).

Verily, the story Biff has to tell is a miraculous one, filled with remarkable journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse reanimations, demons, and hot babes. Even the considerable wiles and devotion of the Saviors pal may not be enough to divert Joshua from his tragic destiny. But theres no one who loves Josh more — except maybe “Maggie,” Mary of Magdala — and Biff isnt about to let his extraordinary pal suffer and ascend without a fight.

IAF Book Discussion Group, Session 2016.07 (UPDATED)

The IAF Book Discussion Group is an ongoing effort to provide interesting intellectual conversations for members of IAF and other interested parties on texts and topics relevant to the Secular perspective.

For this session the group will discuss the entirety of the text “RUTHLESS: Scientology, My Son David Miscavige and Me” by Ron Miscavige.

The reading assignment for this session will cover the whole book.* Be prepared, if possible, to present things from the reading assignment that stood out for you so that we can gain a good cross-section of individual perspectives where the reading is concerned.

*After evaluation of the text, it was decided that there wasn’t enough to the book to warrant two sessions. As such, we will be moving on to something else in August.

The conference room that has been reserved at Kirkendall Public Library has a maximum capacity of 20 so RSVP early to get a seat. Social time will be available from 6:30 to 7 PM if you want to come and just chat before the discussion begins. We’ll see you there. 🙂

*NOTE* Refreshments will no longer be provided gratis. If you require anything for drinking or snacking, you will have to bring it yourself.

You can read about the book on the publisher’s Website by following this LINK. or by going to the Wikipedia page for the title HERE.

If you prefer, though, here is a brief synopsis of the title from the same site –

The only book to examine the origins of Scientology’s current leader, RUTHLESS tells the revealing story of David Miscavige’s childhood and his path to the head seat of the Church of Scientology told through the eyes of his father. Ron Miscavige’s personal, heartfelt story is a riveting insider’s look at life within the world of Scientology.

Capital City Pride Parade

Everyone does their parade setup in the parking lot of the Lucas Building (across the street to the east of the State Capitol). It is generally smart to park in another lot because the Lucas lot will probably be filled with parade units forming and floats getting decorated. It will be a high energy and fun place and we look forward to seeing you there. No candy throwing this year, but we do have beads to hand to parade watchers.
