Planned Parenthood Fall Book Sale Setup

Volunteer Opportunity! Come support Planned Parenthood of the Heartland as they prepare for their annual fall book sale at the Fairgrounds 4-H building. The bulk of the work is unpacking boxes of books and arranging them on tables so please wear clothes and shoes that you can work in comfortably as you’ll be on your feet quite a bit. To find the 4-H Building, turn right from the main fairgrounds entrance off of E. 30th St and drive to the farthest building in that corner of the grounds.

Don’t worry if you can’t make it out at 4:00 – just come when you can, there will be plenty to do. Planned Parenthood asks that all volunteers stay for a minimum of two hours but they understand that not everyone can meet this goal. Please do RSVP if you plan to attend so we can send a headcount to the Planned Parenthood Book Sale organizers. Thank you for volunteering!

Humanist Book Discussion – The Righteous Mind, Part VI

The Humanist Society of Iowa, in conjunction with the UUHumanists, would like to invite you all to join us on Sunday September 16th as we continue our series of engaging discussions centered on the book The Righteous Mind by Jonathan Haidt, an involved text that explores the dynamic behind why people are so divided by politics and religion.

With this session, the discussion will run from 10 AM until 11AM. And will take place in room 103.

The reading assignment for this session is Chapter 6. Don’t be discouraged from attending if you haven’t finished the reading, as there is still room for you to participate. You will undoubtedly learn a lot about how people become so rigid in their thinking that no amount of rational inquiry will change their perspectives.

The book itself is available, both new and used, from Amazon, starting under $5. If you need help acquiring a copy of the book free of shipping, Humanist Society President Gwen Harvey can help with that. Please contact her at this email – kayakniowa@gmail.com

If you like, you can read more about the book here – http://righteousmind.com/
