IAF Movie Night: “The Post”

Come join us for a movie night with your fellow IAF members! This time we’re seeing “The Post”.

Steven Spielberg directs Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks in “The Post”, a thrilling drama about the unlikely partnership between The Washington Post’s Katharine Graham (Streep), the first female publisher of a major American newspaper, and editor Ben Bradlee (Hanks), as they race to catch up with The New York Times to expose a massive cover-up of government secrets that spanned three decades and four U.S. Presidents. The two must overcome their differences as they risk their careers – and their very freedom – to help bring long-buried truths to light. The Post marks the first time Meryl Streep, Tom Hanks and Steven Spielberg have collaborated on a project.

Café Scientifique: Cretaceous Coastlines

Presenter: Cory Redman, Human Anatomy Instructor, Drake University

The Mississippi may be mighty, but 65-100 million years ago, a shallow sea split North America in half, connecting the Arctic Ocean to the Gulf of Mexico.

Using 75-million-year-old fossils, Dr. Cory Redman has studied how changes in sea level affected the diversity and distribution of non-marine animals that lived along the seaway. Join us to explore these findings and learn how the fossil record can be used to help study the effects of modern sea-levels rising.
