IAF wraps up Toys for Tots campaign

The results are in – IAF’s first Toys for Tots toy drive, which ended last week, was a success! Last Wednesday, December 16, we turned in our toy collection box and donations at KCCI TV station in Des Moines. Our donations consisted of 25 toys and $145 in cash and checks. Great job, everyone! The need is greater than ever this year, and our donations will help make a difference. As we requested when this campaign was announced, practically all donated toys were educational and scientific in nature.

This campaign is just one example of the effort IAF is putting into serving our community. Other recent events included volunteering at Chuck’s restaurant in Des Moines on Thanksgiving; a food drive at ISU/Iowa football game tailgate party in Ames last September; and volunteering at Planned Parenthood’s semi-annual book sales.

IAF Board recently approved a creation of a community service committee, which will hopefully make it easier for our members to get involved by providing an alternative to religious charities. Starting in January, the committee will be collecting non-perishable items for a shelter in Des Moines. Also, the paperwork is being finalized for adopting a stretch of I-35, which our group will help clean up several times a year.

Do you have an idea for a service project? Would you like to get involved or to serve on the committee? Let us know at commserv@iowaatheists.org.
